It was found that 60% of travel demand during the Chuseok holiday was family and group travel. This is far above the annual average of 35%.

Early-planned travelers booked long-haul trips using the holiday, which lasts for up to 10 days on record, but demand for travel searches shifted clearly to short-haul and domestic travel in early September, according to Hotels.COM data.

Japan is leading the last-minute rise in overseas travel searches. A comparison between August 12-25 and September 2-15, 2025 showed an increase of 60% in Fukuoka and 35% in Kumamoto.

During the same period, Vietnam’s Hoi An also showed a 50% increase. Hong Kong (+35%) is recovering, while Taipei (+15%) in Taiwan recorded relatively modest growth.

In Korea, searches for Seoul (+100%), Gyeongsang (+75%), Busan (+75%), and Gangwon (+40%) have increased significantly.
