A fault in a water line caused flooding on an MSC Cruises ship.

Video footage uploaded to YouTube by Brazilian news outlet UOL appeared to show standing water in a hallway on MSC Seaview. In one clip, guests can be seen barefoot on soaked stateroom carpet.

The incident occurred on Jan. 12, the cruise line confirmed. The ship is currently sailing a week-long South American voyage that departed from Santos, São Paulo in Brazil on Jan. 10, according to CruiseMapper.

“We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused to our guests as a result of a leak on the ship,” MSC told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. “A fault was detected in a water line and unfortunately this resulted in water entering a number of guest cabins and the public corridor. The fault was quickly isolated and resolved by our technical teams and all affected cabins were deep cleaned.”

The company did not specify the number of cabins impacted, but said the leak posed “no risk to guest safety” and the cruise line communicated with and provided help to passengers. “We offered a range of compensation offers depending on the degree to which guests were affected, including upgraded cabins, full refunds, and onboard credit up to 150 USD,” MSC added.

The incident is not the only one of its kind in recent years. A water line burst on a Carnival Cruise Line ship in 2023, flooding parts of the vessel.
