The result represents a jump of seven positions compared to 2023, when the Portuguese carrier occupied 9th place in the index.

Currently, TAP has a cost of 0.0713 euros per available seat-kilometer (RASK), which places it at the top of the ranking of the 10 most affordable airlines on the continent.

First place on the affordability podium belongs to Wizz Air, which demonstrates a wide advantage over its competitors. With a RASK of just 0.0417 euros, the Hungarian airline has the most affordable fares in Europe. The Nordic carrier, SAS (Scandinavian Airlines), occupies third place, with a cost of 0.075 euros per seat per kilometre flown, slightly behind TAP.

According to AirAdvisor CEO Anton Radchenko, TAP Air Portugal’s performance in 2025 underscores a significant advance in the company’s pricing and accessibility policy, making it one of the competitive options for travellers in Europe.

“Although TAP’s RASK has decreased year after year, its rise in the ranking is due more to the fact that other airlines have become more expensive than anything else.”

According to the aviation law expert, TAP’s website has useful sections for travellers seeking discounts, namely the best deals and promotions sections. “These are great for inspiring trips that fit your budget and are always based on your country or city of departure.”

Based on RASK, an industry metric that reveals the true cost passengers ultimately pay, including ticket revenue and additional fees, the new study by AirAdvisor aims to help European consumers avoid false offers and secure truly affordable options during the Black Friday period, when airfare purchases peak. Since 2020, interest in searching for flight deals at this time of year has grown by approximately 1,000% as travellers worldwide look for promotional airfares for the season.

He points out that the results of the ranking of the 10 Cheapest Airlines in Europe for 2025 may surprise frequent travellers because several full-service airlines, such as TAP and SAS, surpass low-cost brands in terms of real affordability. One example is Ryanair, which, despite its advertised ultra-cheap fares, is in last place due to price fixing with many upselling options.
