“By allowing travel on the last narrow gauge line still in commercial service in the country – the Vouga Line -, between Aveiro and Macinhata do Vouga, this train, made up of historic wooden carriages from the beginning of the 20th century, provides a true immersion in the history of transport and the traditions of the central-north region”, reads a press release.
During these trips, passengers will have the opportunity to visit the Macinhata do Vouga Railway Museum, the city of Águeda and the various urban art exhibitions that make up AgitÁgueda, or to taste local products.
In total, there will be nine trips, between July 5 and August 30, which are carried out under a partnership between CP – Comboios de Portugal, the Municipality of Águeda and the Parish Council of Macinhata do Vouga.
The Vouga Historical Train leaves Aveiro Station at 1:45 pm, with entertainment on board during the trip. Upon arrival in Macinhata do Vouga, passengers will be welcomed with a free Águeda pastry and will be able to visit a regional products fair and purchase typical products, in addition to taking a guided tour of the Macinhata do Vouga Railway Museum.
At 4:40 p.m., the train departs for Águeda, where you can visit the city’s colourful streets. During the AgitÁgueda festival (July 5-27), you can also enjoy the many activities and initiatives taking place throughout the city. The Vouga Historical Train will return to Aveiro at 7:20 pm, and is scheduled to arrive at 8:07 pm. The trip costs 41 euros per adult and 25 euros per child (4 to 12 years old), and there are also special prices for adults. The Vouga Historical Train has a capacity to carry 206 passengers.
