Airlines at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport continue to face major disruption from persistent snow, ice and poor visibility, with nearly 200 flights already cancelled for Tuesday and around 700 scrapped on Monday.
According to Schiphol’s flight information, at least 82 departures and 115 arrivals scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled in advance, with KLM accounting for the majority of cuts, including 56 cancelled morning departures. Several additional inbound flights are also facing delays. Flight operations remained constrained throughout Monday despite a temporary ground stop earlier in the day, and Eurocontrol warned that reduced capacity could continue into the evening.
By late Monday morning, the number of cancellations at Schiphol alone was approaching 500. Nearby Eindhoven Airport also reported limited disruption, with two cancellations and multiple delayed departures and arrivals.
To ease congestion, airports in neighbouring countries, including Brussels, Cologne-Bonn, Düsseldorf, Eindhoven and Ostend-Bruges, were alerted to assist with potential diversions.
The Dutch meteorological institute KNMI warned of continued hazardous conditions on Tuesday, with sleet, freezing rain and fog expected across much of the country. Schiphol and Rotterdam are forecast to see sleet and rain, while fog in the east and southeast could again affect Eindhoven. Coastal areas may experience stronger winds alongside wintry showers, prolonging operational challenges for airlines and passengers.
