A major hotel chain with 250 hotels in 12 counties has filed for insolvency.
European hotel operator Revo Hospitality, formerly known as HR Group, is to be restructured under self-administration. Revo operates 125 hotels in Germany and Austria alone – and says these will continue with all of their roughly 5,500 employees.
The hotel group established in Berlin in 2008 and previously operating under the name HR Group includes a portfolio of approximately 260 hotels in 146 cities and 12 countries. The majority of these cities are in Germany and Austria, and as reported by local press, the hotels are expected to continue operating while the larger hotel group undergoes financial restructuring.
In a statement, Revo said: “With the insolvency proceedings for the approximately 140 companies, which have been initiated primarily under self-administration, there are good prospects for a swift restructuring and long-term continuation.”

“We will immediately stabilize operations and implement initial restructuring measures in consultation with key stakeholders. We have applied to the Federal Employment Agency for pre-financing of salary payments for the months of January to March 2026,” said Gordon Geiser of GT Restructuring. Mr Geiser and Dr. Benedikt de Bruyn have been appointed managing director of the respective companies for the duration of the self-administration proceedings, according to reports.
Bookings with departure until end of March 2026 will likely be safe. Some of the most well-known hotels under the Revo Group include the Grand Belvedere in Davos, the Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof in Berlin, and the Amedia Express brand in multiple countries across Central Europe. Additional properties also operate as franchises under global brands such as Accor, Wyndham, Hilton, Marriott, and IHG.
In a statement on the filing, RHG named increasing labor, food, and other operating costs as the primary reason for its financial problems. Banking on the post-pandemic travel boom, the hotel group also underwent rapid expansion from just 51 hotels in 2020, which likely led to debts and expenses it later struggled to maintain.
With the long-term jobs of over 8,800 reported employees now also up in the air, Revo has applied for German Federal Employment Agency protections to secure salaries into March 2026.
