A quaint seaside town in Greece has been hailed as a “wonderful place” perfect for those “on a budget” where even the locals love to spend their summer holidays. Greece, with its all-year Mediterranean climate, rich heritage, stunning vistas, delectable cuisine and more, remains a top pick for holidaymakers.

With the cost of living crisis biting and prices on the up, going away on holiday can seem out of reach, making budget-friendly escapes more vital than ever. Many seeking an affordable break scour social media for insider tips from locals, travel buffs, and others in the same boat.

On Facebook, one user offered her insights on Kiato, a northern Corinthian town in the Peloponnese, in the Sikyona municipality. She also pointed out how popular is it among local holidaymakers.

She posted several photos of the beachside town and wrote: “I thought I would suggest a wonderful place I’ve grown up visiting if you want to see Greece On a Budget.”

She added: “Athenians vacation here during the summer. It’s filled with wonderful restaurants and beach bars in the summer months.

“Note: the beach bars don’t charge for you to use their sun beds. Simply buying a coffee will suffice.”

Explaining the details, she said: “No car rental needed. Hop on the train from Athens airport to Kiato. There’s one train change and the journey takes one hour and 30 minutes.

“Kiato doesn’t have many hotels but there are very reasonable Airbnbs available, all walking distance from the beach and town centre.

“There is great public transport to cities like Corinth to see the canal or Loutraki for day trips. Also, this region is extremely historic so if you do rent a car, the world is your oyster in terms of sightseeing, visiting nearby beaches, towns, or mountains.”

In the comments section, people shared their opinions – though some expressed disappointment that the woman had disclosed such a well-kept “secret”.

One person lamented: “Kiato was the best kept secret, until now…” while another echoed this sentiment, adding: “Posts like this are what ruins ‘secret spots’ and ‘hidden gems’.”

Another person said: “Oh, noooooo! You’ve let our secret spot out! It’s nice that it’s not overrun by tourism.”

Conversely, others appreciated the recommendation for Kiato. Someone commented: “Thanks for this post. My family is from here and I’ve swum in many waters but none match Corinthian waters! It’s truly a hidden gem!”

Another concurred: “Yup, perfect. I have a house here and come every summer, easy living and beautiful beach.”

Another traveller recounted their Greek holiday experiences before remarking: “Why bother with the busy and expensive islands, when you can relax and enjoy real Greek life, food and people, in the Peloponnese!!”
