SalamAir to launch first direct flights between Oman and Somalia in September 2026

Mogadishu (HOL) — Oman’s national low-cost carrier, SalamAir, will begin direct flights between Muscat and Mogadishu on Sept. 3, 2026, marking the first nonstop air link between the two countries.

The airline said it will operate two weekly services between Muscat International Airport and Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport, expanding connectivity between the Gulf and the Horn of Africa.

One-way Lite fares will start from 79.99 Omani rials ($208), positioning the route as an affordable short-haul option for travelers within the Gulf Cooperation Council region and the Somali diaspora.

Under the published schedule, Thursday flights will depart Muscat at 4 a.m. and arrive in Mogadishu at 7 a.m. The return leg will leave Mogadishu at 7:45 a.m., landing in Muscat at 12:55 p.m.

Sunday services will depart Muscat at 10:05 a.m., arriving in Mogadishu at 1:05 p.m., with the return flight leaving at 1:50 p.m. and reaching Muscat at 7 p.m.

Somalia becomes SalamAir’s fourth African destination. The carrier operates to more than 40 destinations across Asia, Africa and Europe. Mogadishu is already served by several international airlines, including Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways and EgyptAir.

Adrian Hamilton-Manns, SalamAir’s chief executive officer, said the new route reflects growing economic activity in Somalia.

“Somalia has seen significant economic growth and development in recent years. Our direct flights will further stimulate the economy and help create new travel and trade opportunities,” he said in a statement.

He added that the airline plans to continue expanding in East Africa and is considering additional destinations in the region.

The launch aligns with Oman Vision 2040, the sultanate’s long-term development strategy aimed at strengthening global connectivity and boosting tourism and trade.

For Somalia, still rebuilding after decades of conflict, the new route signals continued interest from regional carriers and investors as air traffic to Mogadishu gradually increases alongside economic recovery efforts.
