GOVT. CAMP, Ore. — Snow is falling on Mount Hood Saturday as the National Weather Service issues a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the Oregon and Washington Cascade Range.
Government Camp could get more than half a foot of snow through the day Saturday, with another inch into the night hours.
That snowfall is good news for mountain resorts, which faced significantly lower than average levels of snow for skiers and snowboarders hoping to hit the mountain.

ODOT closed Highway 26 at Milepost 53 on Saturday afternoon over the heavy snow.
Initially they said it was so maintenance crews could put sand on the road. At about 2 p.m., officials closed the eastbound lanes “due to weather,” asking drivers to expect delays or find another route.
Drivers are asked to use caution when heading through the mountain passes in the Cascades, as conditions will be treacherous.
It’s a good idea to make sure your car is road ready. That means having good windshield wipers, snow chains and knowing how to drive in ice and snow as we head into the winter months.
You can get the latest road conditions through the ODOT’s website, tripcheck.com.
Snow levels will stay between 3,000 and 4,000 feet into Sunday.

Again, preparation is key for anyone heading over the Cascade Range. Have a winter emergency driving kit readily available, stocked with things like a flashlight, batteries, blankets, shovel, water, non-perishable food, tire chains, etc.
