Blizzard Warnings Issued Across Northeastern US
The flight cancellations coincide with escalating weather alerts issued by US authorities. The National Weather Service has forecast that the rapidly intensifying storm could dump between 1 and 2 feet of snow across large parts of the northeastern United States.
Blizzard warnings have been issued for New York City, Long Island, Boston, and coastal communities across New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.
Forecasters indicated that the system may begin as rain in some areas before transitioning into heavy snowfall. The heaviest accumulation is expected overnight Sunday.
Officials warned that travel conditions could become dangerous or even impossible in certain regions. Strong winds combined with heavy snow may lead to downed tree limbs, power outages, and potential flooding in parts of New York and New Jersey.
Further, the storm is projected to move from the Washington area on Sunday morning toward Philadelphia and New York City, reaching Boston by evening.
