Subway and bus service continued Monday in New York City despite a powerful winter storm that has dumped more than a foot of snow across much of the city, the MTA said.

“Thousands of folks have been out yesterday and overnight to make sure that we could provide service today,” MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber told “Mornings On 1.” “The service is a little less frequent and a little behind schedule on the subways, but it’s running on the whole system.”

Some express trains on the A, B and 7 lines are operating local, and buses are moving more slowly because of detours and snow accumulation, he said.

Lieber said crews focused on elevated and outdoor tracks where snow tends to pile up.

“We had a lot of snow-fighting equipment out overnight, and we’re making sure to clear all the switches so the system is operating fully,” he said.

Metro-North is running hourly service, while the Long Island Rail Road remains suspended in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

While some buses were seen stuck in snow early Monday, Lieber said crews are working to get them back on the roads.

“We get out there. We dig them out, just like a car. Sometimes it takes an hour or so, but we get them moving,” he said.

Lieber urged riders to check the MTA app for updates and stressed, “If you don’t have to travel, today’s the day to stay home.”
