The passenger’s cause of death has not been confirmed, but authorities were looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident on the cruise between Australia and New Zealand

A person has died during a 12-day cruise between Australia and New Zealand.

Police were notified of the unexplained death on board the Anthem of the Seas ship about 1.40am on Wednesday, March 25. The circumstances surrounding the death of the passenger are being investigated.

It is understood that the ship, carrying more than 4,000 passengers and around 1,300 crew, left Sydney on Sunday, March 22 and was bound for Waitangi in the Bay of Islands. It was scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, April 1, according to the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail said the cruise operator, Royal Caribbean, was approached for comment.

The ship has a total of 16 decks and 2,090 staterooms on board.
