Other cruise lines like Carnival and Holland America have reportedly removed Tracy Arm Fjord from itineraries for safety reasons
Virgin Voyages is making some changes to its Alaska itineraries this year.
As its newest ship, the Brilliant Lady, prepares to mark the cruise line’s West Coast debut for the first time ever this month, the company has made the decision to remove visits to Tracy Arm Fjord in Alaska for the safety of its passengers and crew, Cruise Hive reports.
According to the outlet, passengers who are set to embark on the Brilliant Lady in May received a notice from the adults-only cruise line detailing the itinerary change.
“We wanted to inform you about a change to your Sailor’s upcoming voyage,” the notice reportedly read. “Your Sailor’s Brilliant Lady voyage will now visit Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier in place of Tracy Arm Fjord due to ongoing landslide risk in the area.”

According to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Landslide Hazards Program, a landslide-generated tsunami occurred on Aug. 10, 2025 in Tracy Arm, a narrow fjord located south of Juneau, Alaska. The agency’s landslide event page for the natural disaster is still marked as “active.”
“Continued rockfall and smaller-scale landslide events from the exposed landslide scar are expected and could impact the water, potentially causing future local tsunami,” the agency adds. “As such, this area remains hazardous.”
Instead of visiting Tracy Arm, the Brilliant Lady will bring passengers through the Endicott Arm as the ship “winds through sheer granite cliffs and drifting ice” before passing the “towering” Dawes Glacier, per the cruise line’s website.
However, visits through the Tracy Arm Fjord are still listed on the cruise line’s website for the ship’s 2027 itineraries.

“Around 30 miles long, the Tracy Arm Fjord offers a world of natural creations from cascading waterfalls, crystalline waters bobbing with giant blue icebergs,” the company says of the destination on its website.
Cruise Hive reports other cruise lines, including Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line, have made a similar decision to scrap visits to the scenic destination and replace it with Endicott Arm as a result of the landslide risk.

The ship can hold 2,762 passengers, 1,150 crew members and boasts 1,404 cabins and suites on board, per Virgin Voyages website.
