A boutique hotel in Esquimalt that operates in the refurbished bones of a 120-year-old manor has been named one of the best new hotels in the world for 2026, according website Travel + Leisure.
Rosemead House, located at 429 Lampson Street, is one of three Canadian hotels to make the top 100, and the only hotel in B.C. to do so.
The hotel is located in an Edwardian-style manor that was first constructed in 1906. It boasts 28 rooms, some geared towards historic aesthetics and others towards a more modern feel – as well as a spa and a popular new restaurant, Janevca Kitchen & Lounge.
“Each suite is like a real-life museum,” owner Lenny Moy told Travel + Leisure, adding that around 1,500 unique antiques were used to decorate the hotel and rooms – including items from movie and TV sets to things purchased at London hotels and British estates.

Travel + Leisure contributor Katie Nanton said she agreed with Moy’s assessment of the decor.
“I couldn’t get enough of the manor’s historic architectural quirks—original stained-glass windows, exposed timber trusses, the skinny staircase leading up to my bedroom,” she said.
“Even dinner at on-site Janevca restaurant took on a different depth when my peach melba dessert, itself flawlessly encased in marzipan to look like a real peach, was plated on historic dinnerware sourced from The Savoy in London.”
The list of the 100 best new hotels in the world can be found on the Travel + Leisure website. The hotels were not given individual rankings.
History of the hotel
While the estate was first built in 1906, it wasn’t until 1946 that Samuel and Rosina Lane began converting the manor into guest houses under the name the Olde English Inn, according to the Rosemead House website.
The property would expand into the “English Village” and operate for decades before closing down in 2010.
In 2015, development company Aragon Properties acquired the site and in 2025, the newly renovated and reimagined Rosemead House opened its doors.
