ISTANBUL— Turkish Airlines (TK) has announced a wide-ranging network adjustment for the northern summer 2026 schedule, gradually suspending services to multiple international destinations.
The changes affect operations from its primary hub at Istanbul Airport (IST), as the airline recalibrates capacity across its global network.
The carrier will suspend flights to 18 international destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe between May and June 2026.
The move reflects a strategic review of route performance and operational priorities, with several suspensions extending into the winter 2026/27 season, Aero Routes flagged.

Turkish Airlines Suspends 18 Destinations
Turkish Airlines will discontinue service to a broad mix of destinations, including Aqaba, Billund, Bissau, Freetown, and Havana.
Several African routes, such as Kinshasa, Luanda, Libreville, and Lusaka, will also see services withdrawn.
In addition, flights to Hurghada, Najaf, Kirkuk, Turkistan, and Leipzig will cease operations. Some routes had planned resumptions for the summer season, but these have now been canceled entirely.
Several multi-sector routes will also be simplified or terminated, including services linking Istanbul with West and Central African cities via intermediate stops.
In many cases, primary destinations such as Accra and Dakar will continue to be served, while onward segments are removed.

Turkish Airlines’ Seasonal Adjustments
The suspensions vary in duration, with some routes removed only until late October 2026, while others are not scheduled to return until at least March 2027.
European destinations such as Billund and Leipzig fall into the longer suspension category, alongside Central Asian routes like Ferghana.
In Africa, routes such as Istanbul–Dar es Salaam–Lusaka and Istanbul–Libreville–Pointe Noire will see final flights in May and June. Similarly, Middle Eastern destinations, including Najaf and Kirkuk, will not see planned summer resumptions.
The airline has also reduced frequencies on certain remaining routes, including services to West Africa, where operational adjustments have led to fewer weekly flights.
These changes indicate a shift toward consolidating demand on stronger-performing routes.

Iran Route Status
Turkish Airlines continues to suspend operations to several Iranian cities, including Isfahan, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Tabriz.
These suspensions are currently expected to remain in place until at least late October 2026.
While the airline has tentatively listed flights to Tehran, the schedule remains subject to change depending on operational and regional conditions.
This cautious approach reflects ongoing uncertainty affecting air travel in parts of the Middle East.

Bottom Line
The network revision highlights Turkish Airlines’ focus on maintaining efficiency while navigating evolving market dynamics.
By adjusting its route map, the airline aims to optimize aircraft utilization and align capacity with demand across its extensive global network.
