MONTREAL- Air Canada (AC) has cancelled its planned London Heathrow (LHR) to Mumbai (BOM) service for the Northern winter 2026/27 season. The Star Alliance member had originally scheduled four weekly flights on this route using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, operating from 25 October 2026 to 26 March 2027.
With this cancellation, Air Canada (AC) will no longer offer a one-stop connection between Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Mumbai (BOM) via London Heathrow (LHR) during the winter schedule.
The carrier, however, continues to maintain a strong presence on the Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to London Heathrow (LHR) corridor with three daily frequencies throughout the season.

Air Canada Cancels London to Mumbai Flight
Air Canada (AC) had filed two flight numbers for the London Heathrow (LHR) to Mumbai (BOM) route in its earlier schedule update, Aeroroutes flagged.
- Flight AC856 was set to depart London Heathrow (LHR) at 12:00 and arrive in Mumbai (BOM) at 02:15 the next day.
- The return leg, AC857, was planned to depart Mumbai (BOM) at 04:10 and arrive at London Heathrow (LHR) at 09:20.
Both flights were assigned Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner equipment and were scheduled to operate four times per week. The service would have run from 25 October 2026 through 26 March 2027, covering the full Northern winter season.
This route would have given Air Canada (AC) a direct presence in the Indian aviation market through its London hub, connecting onward to its North American network via Toronto Pearson (YYZ).

Impact on Toronto to London Heathrow Operations
Despite dropping the Mumbai (BOM) sector, Air Canada (AC) will continue operating three daily flights between Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and London Heathrow (LHR) during winter 2026/27. The adjustment, however, brings a change in aircraft configuration on this route.
Previously, the carrier had planned to deploy two daily Boeing 777-300ER flights alongside one daily Boeing 787-8 service on the Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to London Heathrow (LHR) route.
Following the Mumbai cancellation, Air Canada will now operate two daily 777-300ER flights and one daily Boeing 787-9 service instead.
The upgrade from the 787-8 to the larger 787-9 variant offers additional seat capacity on the transatlantic corridor, partially offsetting the loss of the onward Mumbai connection.

What This Means for India-Bound Passengers
The cancellation removes a potential one-stop routing option for passengers travelling between North America and Mumbai (BOM) via London Heathrow (LHR) on Air Canada (AC).
Travellers looking to reach India on Star Alliance carriers during winter 2026/27 will need to explore alternative routing options through other alliance partners or direct services offered by competing airlines.
Air Canada (AC) has not announced any replacement service to India for the winter season. Whether the carrier revisits this route for future scheduling periods remains to be seen.
The decision to cancel may reflect demand considerations, fleet allocation priorities, or network optimization strategies for the winter period.
