ISLAMABAD  –  Directorate General of Archeology and Museums KP Abdul Samad on Sunday said UNESCO’s tentative listing of Kalash Valleys is a major step in presenting Pakistan’s scenic beauty, religious harmony and indigenous heritage to the world while promoting international tourism. While speaking to a local news channel, he said the UNESCO recognition of the Kalash Valleys is set to promote tourism and interfaith harmony, adding that the region stands as a rare example where people of different beliefs live together with mutual respect and coexistence. He appreciated the Kalash Valley community, saying that despite their distinct identity, they have always maintained strong values of tolerance and peaceful living, which he felt has not been highlighted properly in the media so far. He further said the UNESCO platform will now help bring forward the true picture of the Kalash people, showcasing their unique indigenous culture, traditions, rituals, and distinctive clothing to the international audience.  He added that this recognition would not only strengthen Pakistan’s cultural image but also promote religious tolerance and highlight the beauty of diversity within the country. Responding a query, He further stated that Pakistan’s archaeological heritage sites required deeper research and international attention, noting that many historically rich locations still remained under explored despite their global significance and cultural value.  He added that bringing these sites onto world heritage platforms would not only strengthen Pakistan’s tourism sector but also project a positive image of the country by showcasing its ancient civilizations and historical legacy to international visitors.
