Firefighters on Zakynthos mounted a large operation Monday to rescue a young tourist who slipped and fell down part of the towering cliffs above the western island’s most iconic beach.
Local civil protection services said the 21-year-old was pulled up unharmed by a rescuer attached to a rope after tumbling down to a ledge near the top of the cliff at a viewing point over the Navagio beach – one of the most photographed tourist sights in Greece. It was unclear how the man came to slip.
