FBI won’t pursue charges for 75-year-old passenger after flight diverted to MSN airport

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -A United Airlines flight heading from Chicago’s O’Hare airport to Minneapolis was diverted to the Dane County Regional airport Friday night due to the behavior of a passenger.

Flight records show United Airlines Flight 2005 left O’Hare Airport around 8 p.m. Friday night, and landed in Madison around 9:30 p.m.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said deputies learned that the 75-year-old man was confused and suffering a mental health crisis while on board the flight.

Authorities say his behavior prompted him to become unruly and law enforcement officers on the flight were able to restrain the passenger without any of the other passengers getting hurt, according to a release from the MSN Airport.

A spokesperson from the Dane County Regional Airport says the plane landed safely in Madison, and Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies went on board the flight, and removed and arrested the passenger.

According to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, FBI Milwaukee’s Madison Resident Agency is handling the investigation and has advised that no criminal charges be pursued. The man’s family in Minnesota has been notified of what happened and is traveling to Madison to be re-united.

The United Airlines 2005 flight landed safely in Minneapolis around 2:15 Saturday morning.
