The Irish airline will soon fly to Geneva and Prague this year, further expanding its presence at the Republic of Ireland’s second-busiest airport, after Dublin. The new destinations, along with the rising passenger numbers, make me think that Cork should add transatlantic flights to the US or Canada. Cork is a major and important economic centre, and, like its airport, it is the second-largest city in the Republic of Ireland, behind only Dublin.

It is also a major industrial city: did you know that American tech giant Apple has a huge presence in Cork, where it houses its European headquarters? Additionally, pharmaceutical companies play a major role in the city’s economy, most notably Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson. Other major companies that have a presence in Cork include Amazon, Logitech, and Boston Scientific. In a manner of speaking, you can almost look at Cork as Ireland’s own Silicon Valley.

I imagine flights between Cork and Boston, New York, and Newark would be very popular for company employees and students.
