Before the summer ends, Kate Hudson made sure to take one last getaway with her mom, Goldie Hawn, and her bestie, who is still nursing a broken heart.
Hudson described it as a “soul reset,” which might be the perfect way to describe her BFF Dakota Johnson‘s year. The 35-year-old Materialists star called off her engagement to Chris Martin in June after an eight-year, on-again, off-again relationship. A People source said, “It feels final this time.” So far, Johnson and Martin have not reconciled, and instead, she went on a horseback-riding adventure.

Hudson’s photo dump on Aug. 7 showed off their outdoors holiday filled with fresh air, mountains, and plenty of sunshine. Johnson slipped into the second image of the carousel while cuddling Hudson’s daughter, Rani, 6, in her lap while Hawn stuck her tongue out and Hudson grinned mischievously at the camera lens. It looked like the perfect way to end the summer season.

Johnson has been leaning on Hudson during her time of need. In July, the dynamic duo was spotted on a yacht off the coast of Ibiza, Spain. They were sporting bikinis while they relaxed in the blazing sun. The women became lifelong friends after growing up together in Hollywood. Hawn was close with Johnson’s mother, Melanie Griffith, so their sweet bond makes sense.
It doesn’t sound like the Fifty Shades of Grey actress is sitting at home dwelling on her Martin split when she isn’t vacationing with Hudson either. She’s already announced that her next project will be behind the camera as a first-time feature film director.
“I think I will direct a feature, a very small one, hopefully soon,” Johnson shared at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July, per The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re making it with Vanessa Burghardt, who played my daughter in Cha Cha Real Smooth. She’s an incredible autistic actress.”
“I’ve always felt that I’m not ready to direct a feature. I don’t have the confidence,” Johnson added. “But with [Burghardt], I feel very protective, and I know her very well, and … I just won’t let anybody else do it.”
It sounds like Johnson’s next chapter is going to be spectacular!
