Reka is expanding its range of vacations abroad and is taking over the Ortano Mare resort on the Italian island of Elba. With this move, the Swiss travel fund aims to strengthen its position as a family holiday provider and benefit from the high demand in the Mediterranean region.

Within the next few years, the four-star resort should develop into a new flagship of the vacation offer, Reka announced on Wednesday. This will require investments of around 10 million Swiss francs.

The purchase price of the resort, which according to the press release was previously family-owned, has not been disclosed. The resort is to be operated by the new owner Reka from the 2026 season.

From spring to fall, vacation guests could be accommodated in a total of 769 beds in 120 hotel rooms and 119 vacation apartments, it said. These include three outdoor pools, a sailing center, four tennis courts, a theater and Italian restaurants.

Second vacation resort abroad

This is the second resort that Reka has purchased abroad. The cooperative also operates its own beach resort in Tuscany. In Switzerland, Reka owns eleven vacation villages and resorts.

As stated in the 2024 annual report, Reka is planning to increase the number of locations. The focus is on family-friendly resorts in Switzerland and the Mediterranean region, such as the one on Elba.
