Building authorities on Milos island revoked a hotel construction permit near Sarakiniko beach following a National Transparency Authority investigation revealing serious irregularities.
The Milos Building Service withdrew the permit for unique developments after finding violations, primarily the property’s lack of access to a recognized public road. The decision cited inappropriate environmental licensing, noting the facility was approved as a small-category unit when it wasn’t eligible.
The hotel was licensed with “standard environmental commitments” for facilities up to 99 beds but included special tourist infrastructure requiring a full environmental impact study.
Milos Municipality separately appealed against pre-approval for a five-star hotel in the protected Achivadolimni area.
At least 53 hotel units are currently seeking licensing on the island, potentially doubling available beds. Environmental groups requested the Environment Ministry suspend new building permits until completion of the island’s urban planning scheme.
