If you had plans to sail on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship to the Caribbean anytime soon, there is one destination the cruise liner won’t be visiting for awhile.
Royal Caribbean is canceling all trips to its private beach resort in Haiti due to safety concerns that are affecting the island nation.
While Royal Caribbean already diverted its ships from stopping at its private island port in Labadee, about six hours from Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, the change will now be in effect until at least May 2026.
Here’s why Royal Caribbean is changing its itineraries for certain sailings.
Why did Royal Caribbean stop sailing to its port in Haiti?
Royal Caribbean is not sailing to its port in Labadee, Haiti, because of gang violence and political instability in the country, according to the latest travel advisory for Haiti from the State Department.
The State Department issued its “Level 4: Do Not Travel” advisory in September 2024, warning travelers specifically about “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest and limited health care.”
As of this writing, Royal Caribbean is not stopping at its Labadee, Haiti, port until at least May 2026.
Where will Royal Caribbean ships bound for Haiti visit instead?
Royal Caribbean ships that were scheduled to visit Haiti will visit the following locations instead:
- Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos
- Falmouth, Jamaica
- Nassau, Bahamas
- Coco Cay
- Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
- George Town, Grand Cayman
- Cozumel, Mexico
Some cruise itineraries may opt for an extra day at sea instead of visiting a port.
While the Labadee, Haiti, visits are on hold until May 2026, the company said it would make a decision on whether the cruise liner would stop there again before that date.
