Travel advisors can book stays at the fully refurbished Riu Guanacaste in Costa Rica, which officially reopened this week.

The hotel, built in 2009, was the first RIU property in Costa Rica. The new renovation was a complete transformation of guest rooms, communal areas, restaurants, bars and the RIU Land children’s area.

The refurbishment of the 1,041 room resort also included a refresh of the outdoor space, with new shaded areas and landscaped gardens. The pool area has been completely restructured and now has six pools (three with swim-up bars.)

According to an announcement from Sunwing, family travellers will also find a completely renovated RIU Land children’s area and all guests can continue to enjoy the Splash Water World water park and RIU Party events, weekly themed parties available to guests at both RIU hotels in Costa Rica.

Food and beverage was also included in the reno. Guests can now sample cuisine from a wider range of dining options with new restaurant concepts, including Asian, Mexican and Italian restaurants, a classic steakhouse and two buffet restaurants with live cooking stations. New additions include two Pepe’s Food snack stations serving grilled food, two Tiki Taco Mexican taco stations and a new ice cream parlour named Candy. The Sports Bar has adopted a new American country concept, offering an à la carte menu and drinks 24 hours a day.

From now until Oct. 14, advisors can book under Sunwing Vacations’ RIU October family resorts week promotion, for travel until April 2026. Travel advisors will also receive up to 3X RIU Partner Club Points on select vacation packages.
