A modern ‘Business Class’ bus service, capable of travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi in just 3.5 to 4 hours, will soon be launched by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), announced Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar.

The state-of-the-art buses will accommodate 25 passengers, each with access to a personal TV, charging ports, and Wi-Fi connectivity. In addition to the driver, a trained bus hostess will be onboard to assist passengers throughout the journey.

To ensure world-class standards, the seats will be imported and will offer comfort and features similar to the business class seats in Emirates flights.

We are witnessing the beginning of a revolutionary transformation in Kerala’s public transport sector. Once the national highway development is completed, a modern ‘Business Class’ bus service will be launched, making it possible to travel from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi in just three and a half to four hours. This will open a new chapter in the travel experience within the state.

The new buses will offer facilities comparable to the business class of Emirates flights. With seating for 25 passengers, each individual will have access to a personal TV, charging point and Wi-Fi. A bus hostess will be present onboard alongside the driver to assist travellers. To ensure international standards, the seats will be imported.

With the completion of the six-lane national highway by December 2026, the government envisions a major leap in the state’s transport infrastructure. As part of this effort, KSRTC operations will be streamlined with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). New software will be developed to ensure buses run at consistent intervals on the same routes. Travel schedules will be optimised using GPS to predict traffic congestion in advance, making journeys smoother.

In addition, reforms are being introduced in the driving test process. New systems will be implemented to issue driving licences directly at the testing ground, eliminating long delays in receiving a licence. There is no doubt that these advancements will take Kerala’s transport systems to new heights.
