A man was arrested Wednesday on attempted kidnapping charges after an incident at Family Kingdom Amusement Park in Myrtle Beach, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD).

Officers responded to the Park near 300 S. Ocean Blvd. for a reported disturbance.

One of the victims in the incident and a witness told the responding officer they witnessed Alexander Evan Carey, 26, attempt to kidnap another victim.

The victim, whom they said Carey tried to kidnap, then confirmed the claims with police.

“[The witness] also saw [Carey] pick up and deprive [the victim] of his freedom of movement and attempt to carry [the victim] from the safety of the group [he] was with,” the MBPD report said.

The responding officer then found Carey and observed him “unsteady on his feet, having an odor of alcoholic beverage about his breath and person, as well as slurred speech.”

Carey was deemed a danger to himself and the community and arrested on the scene.

He was charged with two counts of kidnapping and public intoxication.

Carey was booked into J reuben Long Detention Center Wednesday night and released Thursday afternoon.
