FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) passengers brawled on final approach to Miami International Airport (MIA) when a dispute over armrest space turned physical. The confrontation forced flight attendants to warn of repeated go-arounds, delaying 172 people eager to reach the ground and make connections.
Video captured the chaos as one woman refused to sit despite the crew’s pleas, leading to heated exchanges and physical contact. Authorities met the aircraft upon landing to address the incident.

Passenger Dispute Over Personal Space
The altercation began during descent as seats felt especially cramped. One passenger complained that the woman next to her had kept an elbow in her space the whole entire time.
Tension rose quickly when the woman stood and challenged others instead of complying with instructions to remain seated.
In the recorded footage, the woman repeatedly asked four times in a row, “Are you gonna make me sit down? Are you gonna make me sit down? Are you gonna make me sit down? Are you gonna make me sit down?” She then added, “Now, bitch, you come here.”
Her adversary responded, “I don’t care. She had her elbow on my side the whole entire time. As soon as I move my arm, she’s gonna elbow me. No, bitch, I’m gonna fuck you up.”
A fellow passenger in a gray cap stepped in and acted as a separator, but the woman surged forward anyway, and her adversary went hands-on in response.
Flight attendants intervened actively. One could be heard urging everyone to sit so the plane could land safely. The crew explained that failure to comply would force the aircraft to keep going around in circles and circles and circles.
They added that people were going to miss their connections and pleaded, “Everybody, please sit down. Can we sit down later, please? Can we let the 172 people who want to go home go home? Can we go home now? Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!”
Reported by View from the Wing, police waited at the gate after landing and took the involved woman into custody. The rest of the passengers finally deplaned after the delay.

Similar Incidents
This incident bears a striking resemblance to last summer’s American Airlines fight on a Nassau to Miami flight.
The similarity was so close that many observers did a double-take to confirm it was a new event.
Both cases involved passengers on inbound flights to MIA amid tight seating and high emotions near landing.
American Airlines, as the dominant carrier at its Miami hub, handles more total flights and more passengers than others.
This results in a higher absolute number of such onboard conflicts compared to Spirit or Frontier, even if American has fewer incidents per capita.
Other recent Miami-related cases include drunk passengers removed for threatening an American Airlines flight attendant and a passenger who attacked an American Airlines gate agent who demanded she gate check her bag.
These patterns highlight ongoing challenges with passenger behavior on high-volume routes into Miami International Airport (MIA).

Crew Efforts to Restore Order
Flight attendants stayed professional throughout the disturbance. They reminded passengers of the safety risks and the impact on fellow travelers.
Their calls emphasized collective responsibility during the critical final approach phase and described the fight as group 8 behavior in online comments.

Impact on Flight Operations
The brawl disrupted a routine landing into one of the busiest US gateways to Latin America and the Caribbean.
Delays from go-arounds affect not only the immediate flight but also downstream connections across the American Airlines (AA) network.
Such incidents underscore the importance of compliance with crew instructions, especially when an aircraft is minutes from touchdown.
