Better never stops in Bali’s tourism sector. With more than half of the province’s GDP generated from tourism both political and business leaders on the island are always striving to improve.
The Bali Government have confirmed that it is working on a plan to introduce new policy that will help improve tourists experience of the island.
This week the Bali Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) Chairman Dewa Made Mahayadnya said team supports the Bali Provincial Government’s plan to organize tourism businesses through the Draft Regional Regulation on Quality Bali Tourism Business Management.
Speaking from Denpasar he shared, ”We continue to support its existence, which is why we will complete today’s draft regional regulation well, because it will indeed lead Bali to a better future.”
The plan is to create a new policy that standardises tourism quality across the island, in turn ensuring that top not service and experiences are delivered to tourist as standard. During his speech, Mahayadnya shared his observations that despite geopolicial tensions impacting global travel, visits by foreign tourists to Bali have remained high.
With the new legislation being drafted and reviewed, Bali Governor Wayan Koster has himself too shared hopes that the deliberations on this draft regional regulation will not take too long. He sees the creation of these new policies as an impactful way to ensure quality, culture-based, and dignified Balinese tourism across the province.
Governor Koster shared “This is something we urgently need to implement for the sustainability of Balinese tourism going forward, considering that tourism plays a significant role in Indonesia and Bali’s economy. If we neglect this, we are neglecting the future of future generations, especially their livelihoods.”
He added that quality tourism is something that requires input from everyone across the sector. Governor Koster explained “The hotel must be good, the villa must be good, the restaurant must be good, the staff must be good, the tour guides must be good, everything must be orderly, and then the infrastructure must be good, transportation must be good, there must be no more traffic jams, environmental issues, and legal problems and disorder.”
Bali has been named the number ne travel destination in the world in 2206 by TripAdvisor.
The island is set to welcome more than 7.5 million international tourists, and while the island has received critiisusm over the last decade for its issues with waste management and traffic congestion, leaders are committed to not only maintaining the island’s public image a s world class travel destination, but improving it further.
One of the biggest concerns for tourism businesses in Bali at the moment is not the quality of their offering, but whether or not the current global geo-policial tensions will impact the number of tourists visiting the island for the rest of the year.
This week tourism leaders have spoken to reporters about the need for the island to pivot and diversify its approach to attracting international visitors.
The Bali Travel Agencies Association (ASITA) have shared that it will be targeting more international tourist visits from Central Asia, such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, amid the changing dynamics of conflict in the Middle East.
The Chairman of ASITA, Putu Winastra, explained to reporters “Several Asian countries actually have the potential to attract many visitors to Bali.
Central Asia, such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, has enormous potential.” He confirmed that investment and changes must be made to help achieve this but that the market holds plenty of potential.
Winastra explained “This is our hope, so we are always coordinating with the ministry to ensure this potential market niche can be truly explored and direct flights, or at least commercial flights, can be established.”
Adding “We are currently exploring this with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism to make this possible.”
