Throughout January, Carnival Cruise Line has faced delays. The cruise line warned guests of weekend delays at its major U.S. port, PortMiami. 55,000 cruise passengers were warned of possible delays due to a 5K marathon in the area.
Carnival told its guests, “Miami will be hosting Diplo’s Run Club 5K on the day of your embarkation,” the email explained. “The route will pass near PortMiami, resulting in some street closures and heavier than normal traffic in some nearby areas.”
Another disruption is taking place, this time on the Carnival Sunshine ship. Opposite of a delay, the ship is set to return a day earlier than expected due to weather concerns. As expected, the decision has drawn a lot of reaction online from other cruise passengers. One cruiser in particular issued a stern dress code warning, given the recent weather.
Here’s a closer look at the status of the Carnival Sunshine ship, and why a cruise passenger has issued a dress code warning.
The Carnival Sunshine Voyage Has Been Cut Short Due To A Developing Nor’easter
Carnival Cruise Line sent out a letter to its Sunshine guests about an itinerary change due to weather concerns in the northeast. Trying to stay ahead of the weather conditions, the Sunshine ship moved up its return to January 31.
However, cruisers could opt to debark as scheduled on February 1.
Carnival wrote in its letter to passengers, “With support from our Fleet Operations Center, we have been actively monitoring weather forecasts, as we look ahead to our return to Norfolk this weekend. A winter storm will be moving into the northeast and, in addition to that, unfavorable weather is set to impact the U.S. East Coast.”
Carnival added, “Combined, these situations are forcing us to make modifications to the rest of our itinerary as we will need a little extra time to sail ahead of the storm to get back to Norfolk before it fully develops. We are now planning to dock Saturday, January 31, at 7:00 AM.”
The cruise line is telling passengers that, because the trip ends earlier, a one-day refund will be issued.
Along with the refund, Carnival is also offering guests complimentary Value Wi-Fi to stay connected while making further travel changes.
Finally, prepaid Carnival excursions for Grand Turk were cancelled and refunded to the Sail & Sign accounts.
The alteration won’t affect future cruises.
As expected, cruisers have reacted to the recent news. One cruiser offered a stern warning to other future Carnival passengers about what to wear for a sail.
A Carnival Cruise Line Passenger Is Cautioning Others To Bring Warm Clothing On Future Sails
There were plenty of reactions to Carnival’s decision to return a day earlier. For the most part, users online appreciated the safety-first approach of the cruise line.
One person wrote on Facebook, “Carnival cannot control the weather… and I think this is beyond fair. Grand Turk is one of my favorite ports but as always Carnival adheres to safety first.”
“Safety first. I sailed in a hurricane that was coming and it was no joke. Stay safe everyone,” another user added.
Additionally, another recent cruise guest issued a dress code warning, advising future passengers to bundle up given the colder weather, and to always sanitize.
“Please everyone take very warm clothing. We froze last week. A lot of people in our group ended up with influenza A also (myself included). Sanitize everything.”
At this time, Carnival Cruise Line hasn’t announced other adjustments to its Eastern Caribbean cruises.
However, the MSC Meraviglia made similar adjustments to its itinerary due to the second winter storm set to hit the East Coast.
