Officials said 23,000 former HumberTAG customers had accessed their new account in the first two days of the new system.

They also said 10,000 new accounts had been created, 12,000 customers without an account had paid to cross and thousands had downloaded the app, which was made available to download on Tuesday.

The spokesperson said: “The overwhelming majority of support we’re providing currently is to help customers adjust to the new system and configure the new features in a way that best suits them.

“Because of the rollout of the new system, we extended the payment deadline for crossings on Saturday and Sunday to midnight on Tuesday.”

The spokesperson added that the new system was now fully operational and all drivers had until midnight the day after a crossing to pay.
