The Dutch government is proposing unlimited train travel at a subsidized rate over the summer to combat the impact of rising fuel costs on consumers.
The centrist administration led by Rob Jetten wants to offer passengers unlimited travel on trains during off-peak hours on weekdays, as well as all day on weekends and public holidays, for €49 ($57) a month from June 21 until September 1, according to a statement. The current monthly rate is about €128 for the same product. The proposal, which needs to pass both houses of parliament, is estimated to cost €118 million, it said.
