Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to set up new toll plazas across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to increase revenue collection on highways and motorways in the province.
He issued the instructions while chairing a meeting where NHA officials briefed him on periodic works, routine maintenance, and pending financial liabilities within the Ministry of Communications.
Officials also sought approval for several outstanding payments linked to ongoing and completed projects. The minister instructed the Secretary Communications to formally engage with the KP government and take the chief minister and chief secretary into confidence regarding the establishment of new toll plazas across the province.
Abdul Aleem Khan said revenue collection is crucial for sustaining development and maintenance of the national road network. He added that funds generated from the new toll points will be reinvested in KP’s highways and motorways, ensuring the province directly benefits—particularly from the high volume of tourism-related traffic entering from other parts of the country.
The minister also directed the Secretary Communications to personally inspect all projects with pending liabilities before approvals are granted. He ordered physical verification of any project with dues exceeding one crore rupees, stressing that payments must only be released after a thorough on-ground assessment.
