As the last month of summer plays out, fright fans are looking ahead to Universal Orlando Resort’s annual Halloween Horror Nights extravaganza kicking off next week.
The event, which runs from Aug. 29 to Nov. 2, is a ghoulish celebration of all things Halloween — from haunted houses inspired by horror films, thrillers and notable characters, to the one-night-only Premium Scream Night.
Another way to ring in spooky season at the theme park is by delving into the seasonal food and beverage offerings — or as Chris Colón, executive sous chef of research and development at Universal Orlando Resort, describes to TODAY.com, “disgustingly delicious” menu options.
“One of the things with Halloween Horror Nights again, it’s just so fun. So we want to kind of give you this … disgustingly delicious food, to where it’s like, ‘Oh my God, that is not this, but, oh, it’s so delicious,’” he says.
The Yum Yum Deviled Eggs, inspired by the park’s “Fallout”-themed haunted house, for example, has the appearance of a hard-boiled egg with a whipped mayonnaise-yolk filling. But upon biting into it, park-goers will have their worlds turned upside down.
“So 100%, it looks like deviled eggs and you’re kind of scared before you eat them, and they feel like deviled eggs in your hands, and then it’s this delicious coconut panna cotta with whipped pineapple ganache and tahini sprinkled on the top,” Colón explains. “So it’s like one of those, like, ‘I’m scared, but oh my goodness, how delicious is it.’”
Another aspect of the menu Colón is excited about is paying homage to the late WWE wrestler Bray Wyatts and The Wyatt Sicks, with a whole haunted house named after them this year.
“We finally got to cook food for something that we all loved growing up. So a couple of items there,” he says. “We got to bring a couple of members of The Wyatt Sicks to life via food.”
Many other menu items are thematically tied to eight of 10 haunted houses — “Fallout,” “Terrifier,” “Jason Universe,” “WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks,” “El Artista: A Spanish Haunting,” “Cursed Carnival,” “Dolls…Let’s Play Dead” and “The Cat Lady of Crooked Lane” — at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida.

Yum Yum Deviled Eggs (‘Fallout’)
A twist on the classic barbecue staple, this item features coconut panna cotta eggs stuffed with bright yellow pineapple whipped ganache. The dish is sprinkled with Tajín seasoning.

Clown Cafe Bloody Popcorn (‘Terrifier’)
This handheld snack features crunchy popcorn chicken, pepperoni and marinara “blood” sauce topped with Parmesan cheese.

Elotes (‘Jason Universe’)
This grilled corn on a husk comes with your choice of garnish: cotija cheese and Tajín or crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Huskus’ Muscle Man Slop (‘WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks’)
This item brings savory and sweet together with beef sloppy Joe, jalapeño bacon, dill pickle chips and cheese sauce.

Artist’s Palette (‘El Artista: A Spanish Haunting’)
These sugar-coated churros come with three dipping sauces: dulce de leche, raspberry jam and Bavarian cream.

Death by a Cheese Stick (‘Cursed Carnival’)
This mozzarella cheese stick comes with a spicy marinara sauce — simple, tasty and satisfying.

Lyla’s Temper Tantrum Tendies (‘Dolls…Let’s Play Dead’)
These golden chicken tenders come with a choice of sauce: garlic parmesan with spicy marinara sauce or mesquite BBQ ranch with bourbon BBQ sauce.

Birria Beef Walking Taco (‘The Cat Lady of Crooked Lane’)
A grab-and-go option is this walking taco, complete with birria beef, red onions, scallions, consommé and Tostitos Sabritas Salsa Verde.

Classic Pizza Fries
This snack, the only menu item to return from past years at Halloween Horror Nights, has crinkle fries as a base and is topped with pepperoni, sausage and melted cheese.

Twisted Tater Chips
Sometimes, all you need is a handful of golden, crunchy chip to keep you going at the parks. This snack comes with either spicy cheddar or ranch & vinegar.

Cupcake (‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’)
This chocolate cupcake is inspired by the manic animatronic in “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” The cream cheese buttercream icing-covered treat is filled with cannoli cream and a raspberry insert.

Radaway (‘Fallout’)
An order of this drink — lemonade with chipotle pineapple mixed with spiced brown sugar syrup — comes with a souvenir bag that is a near-exact replica from the TV series “Fallout.”

Starry Night Spritz (‘Terrifier’)
This alcoholic beverage is complete with Gran Gala orange liqueur, cranberry juice and Cavicchioli 1928 Prosecco, with a rosemary sprig on top.

Light the Way (‘WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks’)
This cocktail, named after the famous phrase by the late WWE wrestler Bryan Wyatt, gets its blue color from blue curaçao syrup. It’s mixed with Firefly White Lightin’ moonshine, Firefly Peach moonshine, Sūpāsawā, simple syrup and Seagram’s tonic water.

Pack Mule
This no-frills (or chills) cocktail is prepared with Cuervo Tradicional Blanco tequila, DeKuyper Crème de Cassis liqueur and ginger beer.

A wicked take on a traditional drink, this whiskey sour is topped with Pinot Noir.

Spicy Jack-O-Rita
For those seeking out pumpkin, this alcoholic beverage mixes pumpkin puree with Reposado tequila, chile liqueur and lime juice and finishes with a Tajín seasoning rim.

Witches Brew
This foggy French 75 is made up of Prosecco and elderflower notes, and is served over dry ice to embody its name in full.
