The Saudi Cabinet has approved a high-speed electric train project linking Saudi Arabia and Qatar, calling it a key step toward improving regional connectivity and economic growth.

The Cabinet meeting was chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency.

Ministers said the cross-border rail project will strengthen transport links between the two Gulf countries, boost tourism, and support economic activity.

They added that the project is expected to become one of the region’s most important development initiatives and will help enhance Gulf integration through a modern railway network.

The 785-kilometer high-speed rail line is scheduled to begin operations in June 2026. It will connect Riyadh and Doha through a direct transport network, reducing travel time between the two cities to approximately two hours.

The railway project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which prioritize transportation development and tourism growth.

The Cabinet also welcomed the United States’ decision to lift sanctions on Syria. Ministers praised President Donald Trump for announcing the move during his visit to Saudi Arabia and later signing the law that ended the Caesar Act.

Saudi officials said they hope the lifting of sanctions will improve stability and economic conditions in Syria and support wider regional cooperation.
