Turnover has risen at a theme park, attractions and events business which dates back to the late 19th century and operates across the UK during “another successful and profitable year”. The historic company added that it continues to target the opening of further venues nationally and internationally.

Mellors Group is a fourth-generation family-run business that specialises in the operation of outdoor events, amusement arcades and competitive social venues.

The Nottingham-headquartered company, which owns theme park Fantasy Island and Skegness Pier, employs hundreds of people.

Accounts filed under Mellors Group (Holdings) show turnover reached £80.2m in the year to 30 September 2024, up from £67.8m in 2023.

Pre-tax profits, however, dipped from £12m to £7.3m.

A strategic report hailed another “successful and profitable year” despite “the impact of a number of adverse economic headwinds”.

It added: “The robust trading performance of FY23, the first full year of unrestricted post-Covid trading, has continued into FY24 with the group successfully delivering its leisure offering in the markets and geographies in which it operates, all of which continued to yield satisfactory profits levels.”

Mellors Group said it “continued the development of its competitive socialising venues concept during the year, which features The Cube Live, Putters – a bespoke mini golf experience – and premium hospitality.

The original venue in Manchester “continued to develop, grow and perform profitability during the year” and the business opened its second CSV site at Canary Wharf in June 2024.

Trading profit margins declined from 22 per cent to 13 per cent “as a direct result of the non-recurring development and opening costs of the newly opened Canary Wharf venue”.

Further expansion of the CSV business, which trades under the brand ‘Urban Playground’, is “well underway”.

A third UK site has been secured in a “prominent UK city centre” which is expected to open in FY26.

The group also plans to expand its CSV business internationally. Its first US venue has been obtained ahead of a planned FY26 opening.
