A Japan Airlines passenger jet made an emergency landing at Narita airport near Tokyo on Friday due to a mechanical issue, with a tire believed to have burst during takeoff, the Transport Ministry said.
The Boeing 767 was bound from Tokyo’s Haneda airport to Kagoshima Airport in southwestern Japan with 218 passengers and eight crew members on board, according to the airline. No injuries were reported.
After the emergency landing at around 11.55am (9.55am Thailand time), Narita’s Runway A was closed for around two hours as officials investigated the incident.
According to the ministry’s Tokyo airport office, debris was later found on Haneda airport’s Runway D, which the aircraft had used for takeoff.
The runway was closed from around 10.30am as authorities examined whether the debris was related to the incident, before reopening around 1.45pm.
On Monday, a Skymark Airlines passenger jet made an emergency landing at Haneda airport after detecting a tire problem, with one of the Boeing 737’s tires later found to be ruptured.
