Police on Tuesday arrested a man who had been on the run after he allegedly brandished a knife at a hotel in the Tokyo DisneySea theme park in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, on Monday evening, according to media reports.
The man, in his 30s, is a former employee of a company that was holding a party at the Hotel MiraCosta in the park, NHK reported, quoting investigative sources.
At approximately 8:10 p.m on Monday, police received calls from a staff member at the hotel saying that a man had entered the hotel’s banquet hall and pulled out a knife from his backpack, brandishing it in front of guests and staff.
The man then fled the scene through the entrance of the hotel toward Maihama Station. No one was harmed during the incident.
The knife was approximately 20 centimeters long, according to reports by broadcaster TBS.
Police learned of the man’s possible involvement after interviewing participants at the party, and tracked down his whereabouts by analyzing security camera footage. They are working to determine his motives, NHK said.
