Karachi’s administration has decided to introduce a dedicated lane for heavy vehicles in response to a recent spike in major traffic accidents, ARY News reported.

Officials confirmed that the lane will enforce a 30 km/h speed limit, and heavy vehicles will be required to stay within the marked route at all times.

The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hasan Naqvi. The session was attended by transporters, Additional IG Police Afzal Khan, the Secretary Transport, and DIG Traffic.

The participants discussed several issues related to goods transporters, including parking shortages, HTV license issuance, vehicle registration, and insurance coverage.

Commissioner Naqvi directed traffic police to take strict measures to prevent further accidents and ensure compliance with traffic laws.

He also assured transporters that the administration would address their concerns, including designated parking spaces, wherever possible.

As part of the new plan, authorities will review the proposed goods transport terminal.

In addition, a dedicated HTV lane will be established from Mai Kolachi to Qayyumabad Bridge, with lane-marking work beginning immediately.

Once the markings are completed, heavy vehicles will be permitted to use only this lane along the stretch.

The meeting also assessed proposals to strengthen vehicle fitness testing and improve insurance mechanisms for vehicles and bus passengers.
