MUNICH— Lufthansa (LH) has announced a new direct route connecting Munich Airport (MUC) with Rovaniemi Airport (RVN), marking a strategic expansion of its Nordic winter network. The service will begin on December 4, 2026, targeting strong seasonal demand for Lapland travel.

The new route strengthens connectivity between southern Germany and northern Finland, a region increasingly popular for winter tourism. Flights will operate twice weekly, offering travelers a direct option to one of the Arctic Circle’s key destinations.

Lufthansa’s New Munich Route

Lufthansa will operate the Munich–Rovaniemi service on Fridays and Sundays. Flight LH2466 will depart Munich at 11:30 a.m. local time and arrive in Rovaniemi at 3:45 p.m.

The return flight, LH2467, will leave Rovaniemi at 4:40 p.m. and land in Munich at 6:55 p.m. The airline will deploy the Airbus A320neo, known for improved fuel efficiency and reduced noise levels.

This marks the first time Lufthansa has introduced a direct link between Munich and Rovaniemi. The route aims to capture growing interest in Lapland, particularly during the winter holiday season.

Nordic Expansion Plan

The Lufthansa Group continues to expand its presence across Nordic and Arctic destinations. Alongside the new Munich route, the airline will increase frequencies on existing services.

Flights from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to Tromsø Airport (TOS) and from Munich to Tromsø will each gain two additional weekly rotations. These changes reflect strong demand for Northern Norway, especially during peak winter months.

Further seasonal increases are planned between February and March 2027. Frankfurt to Rovaniemi will see a third weekly service, while Frankfurt to Kuusamo Airport (KAO) will increase to two weekly flights.

Munich to Kittilä Airport (KTT) will also expand, with additional frequencies bringing the route to up to three weekly services. These adjustments highlight the airline’s focus on strengthening winter connectivity.

Arctic Network Growth

The Lufthansa Group now operates up to 69 weekly flights to nine airports within the Arctic Circle. This includes services operated by Austrian Airlines, Edelweiss, Eurowings, and Discover Airlines.

Tromsø has emerged as a key hub within this network. Since its introduction, the destination has seen steady growth and now receives up to 22 weekly flights from multiple European cities.

The group first entered the Lapland market in 2015 with flights to Kittilä. Since then, the region has evolved from a niche winter destination into a year-round travel market.
