Lufthansa has completed the retrofit of the first of 38 Airbus A320 aircraft, which will be deployed on intra-European services. Last year, the carrier utilised the A320 on 49% of all its operations to markets in the former Yugoslavia.
The retrofitted aircraft feature new ergonomically designed seats from manufacturer Geven, as well as significantly larger overhead bins, USB ports at every seat, as well as tablet and smartphone holders. The new seats include horizontally adjustable headrests and, in business class, a backrest that reclines further. The new cabin is equipped with overhead bins that are 40% larger and offer space for more carry-on suitcases or bags. Baggage can now be stowed vertically. Every seat receives its own USB-A and USB-C port, allowing mobile devices to be charged. In addition, all seats are equipped with a holder for tablets and smartphones.
The first retrofitted A320, registered D-AIZY, is now back in scheduled service. Each aircraft conversion takes about thirty days and involves installing roughly 1.000 components sourced from about 100 suppliers.
