MALAYSIA Airlines has confirmed that two of its international flights were forced to turn back or divert due to escalating tensions in airspace surrounding Iran.

In a statement issued today, the airline said flight MH160 from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Doha returned to Kuala Lumpur, while flight MH156 bound for Jeddah was diverted to Chennai, India. The decision followed security advisories and what the carrier described as an “increased airspace risk”.

The airline said the precautionary move was carried out in accordance with established conflict zone diversion protocols.

“Both flights have now arrived safely at KLIA.

“Passengers affected have been assisted with alternative flight arrangements and hotel accommodation, where required,” the statement said.

Malaysia Airlines added that it is closely monitoring developments and will take all necessary measures to ensure flight operations remain safe and reliable.

“Safety of passengers and crew remains Malaysia Airlines’ highest priority,” it said.

International media have reported mounting tensions between the United States and Iran, prompting several countries to advise or order their citizens to leave the Islamic republic amid concerns over regional stability. – February 28, 2026
