A South Carolina man has disappeared while vacationing with friends in Bali, Indonesia, according to his family.
Wesley Fairey, a fire engineer with the James Island Public Service District in Charleston, traveled with friends to the Bali village of Uluwatu on Aug. 15 and was expected to return to the U.S. on Monday, Sept. 8, his mother Taunya Fairey said, NBC affiliate WCBD and Fox affiliate WCSC reported.
She said she had lost touch with Wesley around Aug. 29.
“We have been in contact with numerous local, state, and federal agencies regarding information pertaining to his whereabouts. We are hoping someone can provide us with information about any bank or phone activity during that time. We urge anyone with information to reach out to the United States Homeland Security,” Taunya said in a statement shared with the outlets.
A person who stated in a Facebook post that he is a friend of Wesley said that the man was staying at a resort near Padang, checked out on Aug. 25, and had not been heard from since.
The friend also stated that Wesley rented a black sedan and was leaving Uluwatu around that same day.
In a Friday, Sept. 12, statement shared on Facebook, the James Island Public Service District said it is assisting in the search for Wesley Fairey, a 20-year veteran of the department.
“We’re doing everything we can to support his family and friends during this difficult time and are eagerly awaiting his safe return home,” the statement read.
