Idaho may not be known for many things, but one of our favorite claims to fame is that the popular movie “Napoleon Dynamite” was filmed in one of the state’s most charming small towns. This unique 2004 movie quickly made a name for itself, not because of its special effects or any A-list names, but because of its relatable characters, quotable dialogue, and quirky humor. In fact, decades later, this film is still regularly quoted, frequently watched on a Friday night, and people still flock to the small town to Preston to check out where this film all began.
I recently explored Preston and visited several of the movie’s filming locations and related gems. In total, there are more than a dozen filming locations in Preston and the surrounding area that you could add to your itinerary. While many stops are just drive-by locations, I decided to visit the places where I could actually stop and stay for a while.
The following itinerary includes just five Napoleon Dynamite-related destinations. These locations are not in the order seen in the movie, but simply create a fun day trip route. Of course, I also had to add a few Napoleon Dynamite quotes to go along with each location because, let’s be honest, this movie has a quote for every place and situation in life.
