A new live show based on One Piece is taking over the WaterWorld stage at Universal Studios Hollywood, giving fans a fresh way to experience the popular pirate story. The event is part of Fan Fest Nights 2026 and runs on select dates between late April and mid-May.
The show puts the spotlight on Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew. Visitors follow them on a new adventure built just for the park. The story centers on a search involving special seeds with unusual powers, while enemies like Buggy and the Marines cause trouble along the way. The performance is packed with action, including stunts, water scenes, explosions, and close-up moments with the audience.
According to Stephen Siercks, the idea grew after last year’s strong response. “In our first year of Fan Fest Nights, we were able to introduce One Piece as one of our core anime experiences,” he said. “We just saw such overwhelming popularity and success from it, that we knew that there was more that we could activate around.”

This new version is bigger and more focused on storytelling. It mixes a simple introduction to the characters with a brand-new plot so both longtime fans and newcomers can follow along. The show lasts about 20 minutes and is designed to be fast, loud, and easy to understand.
The project was developed with help from Universal Studios Japan, which has years of experience creating stage shows based on the same series. Siercks said the team studied their work closely and adapted it for the Hollywood park. “We’ve taken a lot of inspiration from our Universal Studios Japan entertainment partners,” he explained, adding that their knowledge helped shape the final version.
Outside the main show, fans can still meet characters, take photos, and try themed food linked to the series. The event area is designed to feel like part of the One Piece world, not just a single attraction.
Fan Fest Nights also includes other experiences, like a mystery event with Scooby-Doo and a fantasy walk-through based on the Wizarding World, but the pirate show is one of the biggest draws this year.
Right now, One Piece is everywhere, from manga updates to streaming releases and brand deals. This live show adds another layer by turning the story into something physical and interactive.
This kind of event shows how big anime has become outside Japan. It is no longer just something you watch. It is something you can walk into and be part of. That said, these shows need to stay true to the characters or fans will lose interest quickly.
