PERTH– A 52-year-old Indian national is facing up to 12 years in prison after being arrested over an alleged sexual assault on a Perth-bound flight, in a case that has drawn attention to inflight passenger safety and airline response protocols.
The incident occurred on a Scoot Airways (TR) flight from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to Perth Airport (PER), where authorities detained the suspect immediately after landing. The victim, who was seated next to the accused during the journey, alerted cabin crew mid-flight, prompting swift intervention.
Scoot Passenger Arrested in Jail
According to authorities, the alleged assault took place during the four-and-a-half-hour flight, when the suspect reportedly engaged in non-consensual conduct toward the female passenger seated beside him.
The victim managed to notify flight attendants, who acted quickly to separate her from the accused.
Cabin crew relocated the victim to another seat and monitored the suspect for the remainder of the journey. Their response ensured that the situation did not escalate further before the aircraft reached its destination.
Upon arrival at Perth Airport, officers from the Australian Federal Police boarded the aircraft and arrested the suspect at the gate.

Charges And Law
The Australian Federal Police charged the man with one count of sexual intercourse without consent and three counts of acts of indecency without consent. These charges carry significant legal consequences under Australian law.
The offense of sexual intercourse without consent is broadly defined and includes various forms of non-consensual acts. If convicted, the accused could face a maximum prison sentence of 12 years, PYOK flagged.
Acting Superintendent Peter Brindal emphasized that every passenger has the right to feel safe while traveling, especially in the confined space of an aircraft. He urged victims of any unwanted contact to report incidents immediately to airline staff or authorities.
