A Singapore Airlines (SIA) passenger says he was left deeply embarrassed after the lavatory door on his 5 Nov flight repeatedly swung open due to a faulty lock, exposing him to others on two separate occasions. He told Stomp that the locking mechanism did not secure properly, allowing other passengers to accidentally open the door while he was inside.
Despite trying to latch the door more carefully after the first incident, the same thing allegedly happened again when another passenger attempted to enter. According to him, once the door swung open, it would remain ajar unless someone physically shut it.
The man later raised the issue with the cabin crew. He claimed that staff acknowledged the toilet door had been experiencing problems on that particular aircraft, but no immediate fix was offered during the flight.
“This has inevitably caused me significant embarrassment, indignity and loss of privacy,” he said.
The business-class passenger added that he was dissatisfied with the airline’s response after the flight. He added, “I remain appalled by the way the incident was handled – both at the time and even now that I have written to Singapore Airlines and after a few days, they came back with an insincere apology.”
In reply to Stomp, an SIA spokesperson said, “SIA sincerely apologises to our customer for the distress caused by a defective lavatory door on board SQ406 from Singapore to Delhi on 5 Nov.”
