Swimming is now prohibited at 13 coastal zones across Attica due to public health concerns, according to a circular issued Thursday by the Health Ministry.

The circular states the affected areas “do not meet the quality standards set by bathing water legislation.”

Banned areas include: all ports, shipyards, permanent anchorages, and ship dismantling zones; the coastline from the port of Piraeus to Perama; from Skaramangas to Aspropyrgos beach; the stretch from Mikrolimano to the coast of Xirotagaros; the left side of Edem beach in Palaio Faliro near the Pikrodafni stream; the left section of Sounio beach in front of the Akrogiali restaurant; the outer breakwater of Rafina port; the Lavrio shipyard and port area up to the PPC facility, excluding the section from Chelmi beach to Thorikos.

Also restricted are: Skafaki port, Stavros on Akti Themistokleous, and the Miramare area; a 50-meter zone around all stormwater outlets; a 200-meter zone around sewage outfalls, including in Nea Makri, Marathon, and the Asopos River. Authorities are instructed to install and safeguard warning signage
