Tucked away on dozens of lush, wooded acres in Mount Vernon, you’ll find a cluster of cozy cabins perfect for a private couple’s retreat or unique family vacation.

Postcard Cabins was recently named one of the best tiny rentals in the country.

The Skagit County destination offers waterfall views and walking trails through purple foxglove flowers and towering fir trees.

Each cabin is named after the grandparent of a staff member or guest, so you’ll find “Agnes,” “Glenn,” and “Annie” among the choices.

The cabins, ranging from about 150 to 165 square feet, are designed with rich wood interiors and a signature picture window to bring the outdoors in. Each one is equipped with essentials like a cozy queen bed, shower, outdoor fire pit, and a mini kitchen with pots, pans, dishes and other cooking necessities. AC is also a welcome amenity in the summer months.

Also included in every cabin is a lockbox for your phone, an invitation to disconnect from the noise of social media and other distractions and enjoy some solitude and quiet.

Nearby, you’ll find Little Mountain Park, which offers a variety of hiking, trail running, and mountain biking trails and stunning views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountain Range. Deception Pass State Park is 45 minutes away, and Bay View State Park, where you can enjoy views of the San Juan Islands, is just 30 minutes away.

Dining options include Conway Pub and Eatery, Il Granaio Authentic Italian Restaurant, Bertelsen Winery, and Skagit River Brewery.

The cabins are a great choice if you’re looking to take in the stunning Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, which is a short drive away. (You’ll want to book early if that’s your goal.)

Postcard Cabins Skagit Valley is one of 29 tiny cabin sites spread across the country, all conveniently located within two hours of a major city. Originally called Getaway, Postcard Cabins was founded in Boston in 2015 with the goal of giving people a place to unplug from the fast pace of life and reconnect with nature.

Postcard Cabins is owned by Marriott and you can book online. The largest occupancy at the Skagit location (called “Seattle” on the booking site) is four people. Costs vary depending on season and day of the week but range from about $150 on weeknights in the summer and more than $200 on weekends. The maximum number of dogs per room is two and there is a $50 nonrefundable pet fee per stay.
