United Airlines has been in the news recently, after ferrying one of its Boeing 777-200 jets to Victorville. While this site is typically related to aircraft retirements, this particular triple-seven was only sent there for storage, rather than a full withdrawal. At 28.9 years on average per ch-aviation, United’s 777-200s are some of its oldest jets, and, with 364 seats on board, they are also its highest-capacity aircraft, despite not being the largest.

This figure, according to aeroLOPA, consists of 28 domestic first class seats and 336 in economy class (with 102 of these designated as Economy Plus with extra legroom), and puts the 777 just ahead of the 777-200ER’s high-density layout with 362 (32 first and 330 economy seats). This month, Cirium, an aviation analytics company, shows that United has scheduled 878 flights with its 364-seat Boeing 777-200s, but where are they flying?

Twice-Daily To Hawaii

Passengers expressly seeking out United’s highest-capacity jets should look no further than its 2,556-mile (4,113.5 km) route from Los Angeles (LAX) to Honolulu (HNL). These vintage high-density widebodies are scheduled to operate two flights a day in each direction on this route in January 2026, amounting to a grand total of 62 flights each way. This represents an overall seat capacity of 22,568 passengers each way on the corridor.

Passengers can expect a block time of just over six hours when flying from LAX to Honolulu, with the eastbound return leg taking closer to 5.5 hours. Last year, one of these flights had to make an eventful diversion back to Honolulu after a bomb threat was found written on a lavatory mirror. United said at the time:

“Flight 1169 from Honolulu to Los Angeles returned safely to Honolulu after a potential security concern was found written on a lavatory mirror. Law enforcement met the aircraft, and a security sweep was conducted.”

Daily Or More

Elsewhere, there are several more United Airlines routes that will see at least daily service with the 364-seat Boeing 777-200 this month. Denver (DEN) to Honolulu tops this list in terms of frequency, with 41 flights in each direction. For the most part, this route only sees one rotation a day with the type, but, from January 1 to 5, there were an extra two round trips scheduled with the type, presumably to accommodate seasonal demand.

Honolulu is certainly something of a happy hunting ground for United’s 364-seat 777-200s, with two more United routes from Hawaii’s main airport seeing daily service with the type (amounting to 31 flights in each direction) in January 2026. These serve Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO), which are two of the Star Alliance member’s main hubs on the United States mainland.

Away from Honolulu, but remaining in Hawaii, Kona (KOA) and Maui (OGG) will both see daily flights from Denver with United’s 364-seat 777-200s this month. The type will serve two international routes on a daily basis, namely Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Denver to Cancun (CUN) in Mexico, while, domestically, it will also be deployed daily from Chicago O’Hare to Los Angeles International and from San Francisco to Houston Intercontinental.

Lower Frequencies

Select United Airlines routes will also see less-than-daily service with the 777-200 this month, with Orlando (MCO) served by 25 rotations from Denver and 23 from San Francisco. Hawaiian routes also feature as far as lower frequencies are concerned, with Kona and Maui served five times apiece in each direction from San Francisco International Airport. These departures were concentrated in the first few days of the new year.

This was also the case for the route from Denver to Houston, which saw two daily round trips from January 1 to 5 but has none scheduled thereafter, with the 777-200 also only serving the corridors from Chicago O’Hare to Denver and San Francisco in the first week of the new year. Overall, United’s 777-200 usage patterns indicate a preference for high-demand inter-hub domestic routes, with leisure corridors to Mexico and Hawaii also served.
